Stars!
Hey you! We are playing Stars! It’s a 100 card, singleton format for Lorcana where you get to build the deck you have always wanted to! Want to play all villains? Have 99 puppies you want to sleeve up? Can’t pick your favourite princess and NEED to play all of them? This is the format for you!
Now for the nitty gritty…
Play Rules
Deck Construction
Decks consist of 100 cards. At the beginning of the game you pick your Star (Character) and Gimmick (Non Character) to sit in the Castle where they can be played as if they were in your hand! It’s a singleton format, meaning only one of each card in your deck (other than the Dalmatian Tail Wagers because they are so cute :D ).
Star
The Star of your deck is, well, the star of your deck! You can pick any character to be the Star! The Star and their Gimmick will sit outside your deck in the Castle where you can play it as if it was in your hand.
Gimmick
Your Star’s Gimmick can be any non-character card. It to sits in the Castle where you can play it as if it was in your hand.
Ink Colours
Your deck can be up to two colours represented by your Star and Gimmick. So if they are both Amber, your whole deck has to be Amber. If you have a Sapphire Star and a Amethyst Gimmick, you can have both Sapphire and Amethyst cards in your deck or any other combination of colours.
The Castle
The Star and their Gimmick sit outside the deck in The Castle. They can be played from The Castle where you can play them as if they were in your hand. Whenever they would leave play, you can instead return them to The Castle. Each time they return to The Castle they have an Encore Cost of 2 more ink to play (It always costs more to bring someone back for the sequels! And don’t get me started on the direct to DVD specials, the 1.5 versions of movies… the singalongs…)
Playing the Game
Each player starts by putting their Star and their Gimmick in The Castle (face up). Roll a dice to determine who gets to go first, and then begin play. Games are played until the first player reaches 30 lore.
FAQ
If your Gimmick is a Song, how does the Encore Cost effect a character singing it?
For Gimmicks that are songs, a character can still sing them but since their Ink Cost has increased, so does the requirement for singers. If a Song normally costs 3 ink but has an Encore cost of 2, it means a character with Ink Cost 5 or a Singer 5 can sing it for you. Alternately you can use a character with Ink Cost 3 or Singer 3 to sing the song, but the additional Encore Cost has to be paid in ink.
After we pick who goes first, how do we know who goes second?
Well… If you’ve ever played a game the turn order is clockwise. If you like chaos and anarchy (I’m not judging, I like chaos too) the turn order is counter-clockwise. If you like to completely break your play groups mind do it all at random!!!!
